Free savings goal calculator: find out how long it takes to reach any target or how much to save each month. Plan for emergencies, down payments, and big purchases.
A savings goal turns a wish into a plan. Whether it is an emergency fund, a down payment, a trip, or a new laptop, knowing the timeline and the monthly amount makes the goal reachable.
**Who is this for?** Anyone saving toward a specific target with a deadline - first-time savers, families planning a house, or travelers budgeting a big trip.
**Two questions answered:** The calculator tells you how long your current monthly savings will take to reach the goal, and how much you would need to save monthly to hit it within your target time horizon.
**How to use it:** Enter your goal, current savings, monthly savings, target horizon, and expected return. Adjust any number to see the impact instantly.
It uses the future value of an annuity formula. Given your goal, current savings, monthly savings, and expected return, it solves for how many months are needed - and, in reverse, for the monthly amount required to hit the goal within your chosen horizon.
The primary result shows the time in years based on your current monthly savings and expected return. For example, $10,000 saved plus $1,000 monthly at 3% reaches $50,000 in about 3.2 years.
The required monthly result is computed for your target time horizon. Divide your remaining gap by the months and add a bit more to account for timing - or simply use the calculator with your own numbers.
For bank savings use 2-4%; for diversified investments a range of 5-8% is common, but returns are not guaranteed. Use a conservative rate so your plan has a buffer.
Automate the transfer on payday, review progress quarterly, and celebrate milestones. If your timeline slips, the required monthly number in the calculator shows exactly what to adjust.
